Description

REAL Midi System is a patented device for stool sample conservation and concentration. The best solution for your laboratory to manage faecal samples, cleaner, more effective and ecological.

Parasitic diseases affect to milions of people every year from all over the world. Many of them are caused by intestinal parasites whose diagnosis is usually carried out by the detection of helmith eggs, larvae or protozoa cysts in faecal samples. For this purpose an appropriate collection, transport and handling of those samples is critical.

The Midi-System special design simplifies the sample processing, as no additional consumable is required. The procedure is fast, safe and clean, the technitian is not in touch with the sample at anytime. The long spoon protects the user from touching the feces and at the same time the fixative turns the sample non-infestive.

The tubes include glass beads in order to help homogenize the sample.

WORKING PROTOCOL

Shake vigorously the collection tube with the sample for 30 seconds.
Exchange the bottom cap for the sedimentation cone. If the sample is very compact, 3 drops of surfactant such as Tergitol (or similar) 20% can be added to improve homogenisation.
Centrifuge for 3 minutes at 700 xg (2.000 rpm).
Collect the sediment using the REAL Easypick system (optional for Midi-System). Remove the cone containing the sediment, place the Easypick green cap and pierce it with pipette provided (if you do not have Easypick system use a pasteur pipette). Place a few drops on a slide and observed under a microscope.
A drop of Lugol’s can be added to the slide to facilitate visibility of the structures.It is recommended to examine the whole area systematically to ensure a correct diagnosis.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:

Only for in-vitro diagnosis; profesional use. NON-DOMESTIC USE.
All samples must be treated as a potencial source of infection. Ensure you follow correct laboratory guidelines at all time. It is recommended to wear gloves and wash your hands.
The content of the tube is toxic, do not swallow. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If accidental ingestion or spillage occurs, consult the safety data sheet.
Keep away from children.
To ensure an accurate diagnosis, it is recommended to take 3 different samples collected on alternate days.
Do not use after expiration date.

STORAGE, STABILITY AND DISPOSAL:

The test kit must be stored at room temperature for the duration of the shelf-life indicated on the label. Dispose of using specific methods for the destruction of material with biological content. The content of the tube is toxic, consult the legislation on the disposal for toxic substances. If this is not possible, hire an authorized company for it. The container is made of 100% recyclable polypropylene.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENT

PRELIMINARY REMARKS

Wash hands with soap before and after sample collection.
Use before the date indicated on the package.
Store at room temperature.
Avoid the use of anti-diarrhoeal medication or laxatives prior to collection.
To ensure maximum parasite recovery, collection of 3 samples on alternate days in different containers is recommended.
If there is an empty tube, this should be used last, and no more than 24 hours should elapse before the sample reaches the laboratory.

SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURE

Defecate on a clean, dry surface, avoiding contamination of faeces with urine or water. You can collect the sample from the toilet by placing a sheet or cling film.In children wearing a nappy, faeces can be collected directly from it.
Open the tube and take the cap with a spoon. The bottom cap must not be handled under any circumstances.
Collect the amount of sample corresponding to one tablespoonful and place the sample in the tube.
Close tightly, shake for 30 seconds and store the sample at room temperature in an upright position. The samples is ready to be sent to the laboratory for processing.

CAUTIONS

The content of tube is TOXIC, DO NOT DRINK! May contain liquid with formaldehyde.
If swallowed, seek medical advice as a matter of urgency.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes, in case of contact wash with plenty of water.
Keep out of reach of children. NON DOMESTIC USE.
